Rules of the Dojo

3 Major Rules

  • Bow when entering and exiting the dojo
  • No talking during lessons
  • All members must be clean

Extended Rules

  • No use of profanity in the dojo
  • You may not get a drink at any time during a lesson unless told to do so by your instructor
  • Shirts must be worn at all times (except in specific sparring)
  • Nails to be trimmed short
  • No perfumes or colognes
  • Do not leave the tatami without permission of your instructor
  • Be on time for classes
  • Remove rings or other metal before training
  • Long hair must be tied back
  • Instructor to be referred to as Sensei or Sifu
  • Drugs or alcohol use is strictly prohibited
  • Refrain from using your skills in public unless necessary
  • "Oss" is a sign of respect and is appropriate response when given instruction or correction by your instructor
  • Consider your partner's safety at all times
  • Members of the The Academy are free to train at other schools
  • When visiting other schools, seminars or competing in tournaments, always show respect and courtesy that brings honour to The Academy
  • Visitors are welcome as long as they respect dojo rules, and must be invited or ask permission before visiting
  • Sandals are mandatory
  • Rash guards are mandatory
